Jemadar Naib Subedar, Indian Army
Rao Abdul Hafiz Khan was an Indian recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. He held the rank of Jemadar Naib Subedar in the Indian Army and served with the 9th Jat Regiment.
He was the youngest Indian recipient of the prestigious award. His gallant actions on the battlefield secured his place in military history, although he unfortunately never lived to see his daughter, who was only three months old when his widow was photographed with her.
Today, his memory and supreme sacrifice are preserved for future generations. His Victoria Cross is on public display in the Lord Ashcroft Gallery at the Imperial War Museum in London.
