Sergeant, U.S. Army
Adam Neder was a German-born soldier who served in the United States Army during the late 19th century. As a member of the elite 7th U.S. Cavalry, Neder participated in the final chapters of the American Indian Wars on the Western frontier.
He is best known for his actions on December 29, 1890, during the Wounded Knee Massacre and subsequent engagements along White Clay Creek. His distinguished bravery during these search-and-destroy missions earned him the nation's highest military decoration, marking him as one of only five men in his immediate unit to receive such recognition.
Neder's service reflects the critical and often controversial role played by cavalry units during the Indian Wars campaign, cementing his place in the military history of the American frontier.
