Albert Burton was a sailor in the United States Navy who served during the American Civil War. He distinguished himself through his courageous actions during the Union assault on Fort Fisher, a vital Confederate stronghold.
On January 15, 1865, during the Second Battle of Fort Fisher, Seaman Burton was part of the landing force that assaulted the fort. His gallantry during the fierce engagement earned him the nation's highest military decoration, the Medal of Honor.
His service represents the critical contributions of naval personnel in amphibious operations during the Civil War. Little else is recorded of his post-war life, but his legacy remains preserved through his recognition for valor at Fort Fisher.
