Lieutenant, British Army
Lieutenant Alec George Horwood, VC, DCM, was a British Army infantry officer of the British Army who served during the Second World War.
He served with the Queen’s Royal Regiment (West Surrey) and was operationally attached to the 1st Battalion, Northamptonshire Regiment during service in the Burma Campaign (Arakan Front). During combat at Kyauchaw, he led and directed his men under sustained enemy fire over several days of intense fighting.
He was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal for earlier gallantry in action. He was later posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross for exceptional bravery and leadership during the same campaign, in which he continued to direct operations after being mortally wounded.
His service is recorded as part of British Army operations in the Burma theatre of the Second World War, reflecting sustained leadership in infantry combat under extreme battlefield conditions.
