Colonel, U.S. Army
Colonel Allen James Greer (1878–1964) was a highly decorated officer in the United States Army who served with distinction during the Philippine–American War and World War I. He is best remembered for his heroic actions near Majada, Laguna Province, Philippines, on July 2, 1901, which earned him the nation's highest military decoration, the Medal of Honor.
During his actions in the Philippines, Greer charged an enemy outpost single-handedly. Equipped only with his pistol, he successfully neutralized the insurgent position by killing one hostile fighter, wounding two others, and capturing three prisoners along with their weapons and equipment. This conspicuous gallantry led to his decoration the following year.
Decades later, during World War I, Greer continued his distinguished service in a leadership capacity. He served as the chief of staff for the 92nd Division, a segregated unit of the United States Army. He retired at the rank of Colonel, leaving behind a legacy of bravery and staff leadership.
