Rear-Admiral, Royal Navy
Rear-Admiral Sir Anthony Cecil Capel Miers, popularly known as "Crap Miers" and "Gamp", was a highly distinguished Royal Navy officer who served with great prominence in the submarine service during the Second World War. His exceptional leadership and courage during underwater operations earned him the United Kingdom's highest military decoration for gallantry, the Victoria Cross.
Throughout his wartime career, Miers commanded several submarines, demonstrating remarkable tactical skill and aggression against enemy shipping. His formidable service record in challenging theatres of war made him one of the most recognized British submarine commanders of the conflict.
In addition to his Victoria Cross, Miers was highly decorated by both his own nation and allied governments, receiving the Distinguished Service Order with Bar, several mentions in despatches, and the United States Legion of Merit. He continued his distinguished naval career after the war, eventually rising to the rank of Rear-Admiral.
