Captain, Cape Colonial Forces
Captain Henry Cecil Dudgeon D'Arcy VC was a New Zealand-born officer of the Cape Colonial Forces who received the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.
He earned the decoration on 3 July 1879 during the Anglo-Zulu War at Ulundi, South Africa, while serving as a twenty-eight-year-old captain in the Frontier Light Horse. During the battle, he demonstrated conspicuous bravery in the face of the enemy.
