Biography
His war service won decorations across two global conflicts.
Cecil Malcolm Rait served in the British Army during both world wars. An official appointment notice records his commission into the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders during the First World War. The 1918 Birthday Honours named Temporary Lieutenant Rait among the recipients of the Military Cross. Imperial War Museums' service index also records him as a captain in the regiment and a staff captain on the General List.
His subsequent career included Territorial service. By November 1947 he was officially styled Major Cecil Malcolm Rait, MC, TD, of the Rifle Brigade. The same London Gazette notice authorised his acceptance of the United States Bronze Star Medal. These records establish both his officer's Territorial Decoration and Allied recognition for his later service.
