Charles B. Tanner was an American soldier who fought in the American Civil War. Serving in the U.S. Army, he rose to the rank of Second Lieutenant and became a recipient of his nation's highest decoration for valor on the battlefield.
During the Battle of Antietam on September 17, 1862, near Sharpsburg, Maryland, Tanner exhibited extraordinary heroism. His actions during this exceptionally bloody conflict earned him recognition decades later when the nation formally acknowledged his bravery.
On December 13, 1899, Tanner was officially honored with the Medal of Honor. His legacy remains preserved as one of the distinguished patriots of the Union Army who risked their lives in defense of the United States.
