Private Charles Wesley Rundle stepped forward for the volunteer storming party at Vicksburg, one of the assault's most dangerous assignments.
Charles Wesley Rundle was born on December 14, 1842, at Covington, Kentucky. During the service relevant to this record, he served as Private with Company A, 116th Illinois Infantry.
On May 22, 1863, at Vicksburg, Mississippi, The party advanced ahead of the main force against the Confederate works. Rundle's gallantry in that charge was recognized with the Medal of Honor more than thirty years later.

Rundle received the Medal of Honor on July 26, 1894. He died on July 11, 1924, at Los Angeles and was buried in Los Angeles National Cemetery.
