Corporal Frederick Clarence Buck was wounded at Chapin's Farm but refused to leave the field while the fight continued.
Buck was born in 1843 at Hartford, Connecticut. During the Civil War he served in Company A, 21st Connecticut Infantry, and later attained the rank of first lieutenant.
On September 29, 1864, at Chapin's Farm, Virginia, Buck remained in action after being wounded, conduct recognized with the Medal of Honor.

The Medal of Honor was presented on April 6, 1865. Buck died on June 1, 1905, at Johnson City, Tennessee, and was buried in Mountain Home National Cemetery.
