Staff Sergeant, U.S. Army
Staff Sergeant Félix Modesto Conde Falcón was a United States Army soldier who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroic actions during the Vietnam War. Born in Juncos, Puerto Rico, he enlisted in the Army in April 1963 in Chicago, Illinois. He served in South Vietnam, where he was killed during intense combat operations in Ap Tan Hoa on April 4, 1969.
On March 18, 2014, President Barack Obama presented the Medal of Honor to Conde Falcón's family at a White House ceremony. This recognition resulted from a Congressionally mandated review under the Defense Authorization Act, which sought to ensure that Jewish American and Hispanic American veterans of World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War were not overlooked for the nation's highest military decoration due to prejudice.
Throughout his service, Staff Sergeant Conde Falcón distinguished himself as a dedicated infantryman. His courage under fire and ultimate sacrifice are commemorated through his numerous decorations, reflecting his profound devotion to duty and country.
