At Chancellorsville, Private Felix Brannigan volunteered for dangerous duty carrying information through a battlefield where capture or death was a realistic possibility.
Brannigan was born in 1844 in Ireland. He served in Company A, 74th New York Infantry and later attained the rank of first lieutenant.
On May 2, 1863, Brannigan performed dangerous service in obtaining and conveying information needed by his command.
Medal of Honor Citation
Voluntarily served as a bearer of dispatches and rendered dangerous and valuable service in obtaining information.
The Medal of Honor was presented on June 29, 1866. Brannigan died on June 10, 1907, and was buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
