Brigadier-General Francis Aylmer Maxwell was a highly decorated British Army officer who served with distinction during the Second Boer War and the First World War. He was commissioned into the Indian Army and achieved notoriety for his exceptional bravery and leadership under fire. Maxwell was awarded the Victoria Cross, the highest award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.
