Lieutenant Colonel, British Army
Lieutenant Colonel Frederick William Bell, VC was an Australian officer who served in the British Army and was awarded the Victoria Cross, the highest award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.
His military career saw distinguished service, including being twice Mentioned in Despatches for his actions. He represents one of the highly decorated Australian servicemen of his era who served under the British crown.
In 1984, the Western Australian Government acquired his medals from his stepson in Canada. These historic decorations were placed in the collection of the Western Australian Museum and have since been displayed at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra, preserving his legacy for future generations.
