Biography

His gallantry in the Chiricahua Mountains earned him a medal

Frederick Jarvis was born in Essex County, New York, in 1841. He served as a sergeant in Company G, 1st U.S. Cavalry.

On 20 October 1869, Jarvis distinguished himself in fighting in the Chiricahua Mountains of Arizona Territory. His Medal of Honor citation recognized gallantry in action.

He received the medal on 20 December 1869. The award was accredited to Hudson, Michigan.

Jarvis died in Salt Lake City, Utah, on 8 April 1894 and is buried in the city's cemetery. His citation preserves his recognition for courage during the Army's western campaigns.
