George Geiger

He guarded water during the desperate Little Bighorn battle.

George Geiger was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1843. He served in the U.S. Army during the Civil War before joining the 7th U.S. Cavalry. As a sergeant in Company H, he served in campaigns in the American West.

On June 25, 1876, at the Little Bighorn River in Montana Territory, Geiger and three comrades held a position that secured water for their command. His Medal of Honor citation recognized their courage throughout the engagement. The award specifically commemorated the protection of this essential supply during battle.

Geiger received the Medal of Honor on October 5, 1878. He died on January 23, 1904, in Dayton, Ohio, and is buried at Dayton National Cemetery. His award preserves the memory of service that helped sustain fellow soldiers under dangerous conditions.
