Sergeant, British Army
George Richardson VC was born in Derrylane, Killeshandra, County Cavan, the son of John and Anne Richardson. He entered military service in the British Army, where he would go on to achieve the rank of Sergeant.
He became an Irish recipient of the Victoria Cross, which is the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.
His legacy remains as one of the distinguished nineteenth-century gallantry recipients from Ireland who served with distinction under the British Crown.
