George Schneider was a sergeant in the United States Army who served during the American Civil War. He distinguished himself through outstanding gallantry during one of the war's most intense engagements, the Battle of the Crater in Virginia on July 30, 1864.
For his exceptional actions during the battle, Schneider was decorated with the Medal of Honor, which was officially issued to him on July 27, 1896. His bravery under fire represents the dedicated service of Union soldiers during the protracted Siege of Petersburg.
