Colonel Hans Garrett Moore was an Irish officer in the British Army who became a recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.
Born in Carlingford, County Louth, Ireland, Moore served with distinction in the British military, eventually rising to the rank of Colonel. His gallantry in action earned him the United Kingdom's premier award for valor.
In addition to the Victoria Cross, his distinguished service was recognized with the Order of the Bath. Today, his Victoria Cross is preserved and on display at the MuseuMAfricA in Johannesburg, South Africa.
