Landsman, U.S. Navy
Landsman Henry Brutsche was a Union Navy sailor who fought during the American Civil War. He served aboard the double-ended gunboat USS Tacony during its operations in North Carolina waters.
On 31 October 1864, during the recapture of Plymouth, North Carolina, Brutsche distinguished himself through his gallant conduct under fire. For his bravery during this intense combat action, he was recommended for the nation's highest military decoration.
Brutsche was officially honored with the Medal of Honor on 31 December 1864, recognizing his exceptional courage and devotion to duty while under enemy fire during the Civil War.
