Sergeant O-03Captain, U.S. Army
Henry Fox was a German-born soldier who immigrated to the United States and served in the Union Army during the American Civil War. He demonstrated exceptional bravery during the conflict, rising through the ranks from an enlisted soldier to a commissioned officer, eventually reaching the rank of Captain.
On December 23, 1862, during an engagement near Jackson, Tennessee, Fox performed the actions that would later define his military legacy. His gallantry in the face of the enemy during this action earned him the nation's highest military decoration for valor.
Decades after the war's conclusion, Fox was formally recognized for his heroism. He was officially presented with the Medal of Honor on May 16, 1899, cementing his place in American military history as a distinguished veteran of the Civil War.
