Henry Hendrickson

Cutting enemy cables while under fire in Cienfuegos harbour.

Henry Hendrickson was a U.S. Navy seaman who received the Medal of Honor for his conduct during the Spanish-American War. He served aboard USS Marblehead.

On May 11, 1898, Hendrickson took part in the operation to cut the cable leading from Cienfuegos, Cuba. The sailors faced heavy enemy fire while carrying out the mission. His official citation recognized the bravery and composure he maintained throughout the action.

Hendrickson survived the war and received the award during his lifetime. He died in Boston, Massachusetts, on February 28, 1912, and was buried at Mount Hope Cemetery in Mattapan. His Medal of Honor commemorates his courage in a hazardous naval operation.
