Trooper, South African Forces
Herbert Stephen Henderson VC was a Scottish-born Rhodesian recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.
Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Henderson was educated at the Kelvinside Academy. He later emigrated to southern Africa, where he served as a trooper with the South African Forces during military operations in Rhodesia.
His exceptional valor during these conflicts earned him the Victoria Cross. His medal is currently preserved and on display at the National Army Museum in Chelsea, London, commemorating his historic service and bravery.
