Horace Edward Ramsden

Horace Edward Ramsden VC was an English and South African recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. He earned his nation's highest military honor during his service as a Trooper.

His Victoria Cross was specifically awarded for an outstanding act of bravery in saving his brother's life. This heroic feat cemented his legacy as a legendary figure in British and Commonwealth military history.

In later years, Ramsden's historic decoration gained further public interest when his original Victoria Cross medal was sold at auction in South Africa through Stephan Welz and Co. in October 1999, where it was purchased by the prominent collector Lord Ashcroft.
