Biography

Sergeant Ian John McKay, VC was a British Army soldier who was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.

He served with distinction in the British Army. His actions during his service culminated in the ultimate sacrifice, earning him the nation's highest military decoration for outstanding valor during combat.

Following his death, his Victoria Cross was sold by his wife in 1989. The medal is currently on display for the public in the Lord Ashcroft Gallery at the Imperial War Museum in London, serving as a lasting testament to his bravery and service.
