Corporal, U.S. Army
Corporal Isaac Harrison Carman was an American soldier who fought in the American Civil War. Serving with the U.S. Army, Carman demonstrated extraordinary heroism during the major Union offensive at the Battle of Vicksburg in Mississippi on 22 May 1863. For his actions in this engagement, he would later be awarded the nation's highest military decoration.
Following his wartime service, Carman was officially recognized with the Medal of Honor on 25 February 1895. Due to administrative errors in historic United States Government records, his surname was frequently misspelled as "Carmin" or "Carmen" across official documentation.
