Captured a Confederate flag at Sailor's Creek under fire
Three days before Appomattox, First Sergeant Ivers S. Calkin captured the flag of the 18th Virginia Infantry at Sailor's Creek.
Ivers S. Calkin was born May 29, 1836, at Elizabethtown, New York. During the period relevant to this record, he served as First Sergeant with Company M, 2nd New York Cavalry.
On April 6, 1865, at Deatonsville, Sailor's Creek, Virginia, the capture came during the Union attacks that broke apart much of Lee's retreating army. Calkin received the Medal of Honor less than a month later.

He died February 16, 1902, at Montague, Michigan. He was buried in Oak Grove Cemetery in Montague.
