Sergeant, U.S. Army
James E. Bailey was a United States Army Sergeant who served during the American Indian Wars in the late 19th century. He was recognized for his conspicuous gallantry during the harsh winter campaign of 1872 to 1873, a period marked by intense operations in rugged territories.
For his exceptional bravery and dedicated service during these winter campaigns, Sergeant Bailey was awarded the Medal of Honor, the United States military's highest decoration for valor. The medal was officially issued to him on April 12, 1875.
