Born in Kingstown, County Dublin, Ireland, he was educated at Castleknock College and Trinity College, Dublin.
Reynolds earned his Victoria Cross for his actions at the Battle of Rorke's Drift, a historic engagement of the Anglo-Zulu War. Serving as a medical officer in the British Army, his conduct during the defense of the mission station earned him the nation's highest decoration for valor.
He achieved the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel during his military career. Today, his Victoria Cross is preserved and displayed for the public at the Museum of Military Medicine in Aldershot, England, serving as a lasting testament to his bravery and service.
