Biography

James Langley Dalton VC was an English recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.

Dalton served as an Assistant Commissary in the British Army. He is most famous for his heroic actions during the Anglo-Zulu War, specifically at the legendary Battle of Rorke's Drift in 1879, where a small British garrison successfully defended their station against a massive force of Zulu warriors.

His leadership, bravery, and critical role in organizing the defense of the post were key to the garrison's survival, earning him everlasting recognition in British military history.
