James McKechnie VC was a Scottish recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.
Serving in the British Army, McKechnie achieved the rank of Sergeant. He is most remembered for his courageous actions which earned him the Victoria Cross, the premier award for gallantry in the United Kingdom.
His Victoria Cross is preserved today and is on display at The Guards Regimental Headquarters of the Scots Guards, located in Wellington Barracks, Chelsea, London.
