Surgeon General Sir James Mouat was an English recipient of the Victoria Cross (VC), the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. He served with distinction as a medical officer in the British Army during major 19th-century campaigns.
Throughout his distinguished career, Mouat served in the Crimean War, where he performed the deeds of gallantry that earned him the Victoria Cross. He later served in the New Zealand Wars, continuing his dedicated medical service under hazardous combat conditions.
