Sergeant, U.S. Marine Corps
James William "Jim" Robinson Jr. was an American soldier and a posthumous recipient of the Medal of Honor. He was born in Lyons, Illinois, and raised in Chicago. Robinson served with the United States Army during the Vietnam War, holding the rank of Sergeant (E-5) in the infantry when he was killed under heroic circumstances on April 11, 1966, at the age of 25.
While serving in the infantry, Robinson demonstrated exceptional heroism and selflessness. His actions during a intense combat engagement in Vietnam led to his posthumous decoration with the nation's highest military award for valor. His legacy is preserved through several locations named in his honor.
Following his sacrifice, Robinson's memory was honored with the naming of Robinson Secondary School in Fairfax, Virginia, Robinson Elementary School in Lyons, Illinois, and the Robinson Army Reserve Training Center in Chicago, Illinois.
