Master Sergeant, U.S. Army
Jerry Kirt Crump was a distinguished United States Army soldier who served during the Korean War. He achieved the rank of Master Sergeant and became a recipient of the nation's highest military decoration, the Medal of Honor, for his extraordinary heroism during combat operations in September 1951.
On September 6 and 7, 1951, Crump demonstrated conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty. His actions during this critical engagement saved the lives of his fellow soldiers and contributed significantly to his unit's mission. For these actions, he was personally presented the Medal of Honor by President Harry S. Truman during a ceremony at the White House Rose Garden on June 27, 1952.
In addition to the Medal of Honor, Crump was wounded in action, earning the Purple Heart with an Oak Leaf Cluster. His dedicated service throughout the conflict and his subsequent military career are commemorated by numerous decorations, including the Combat Infantryman Badge, which underscores his role as a frontline combat soldier.
