Second Lieutenant, British Army
John Crawford Buchan was a Scottish soldier and a recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. He served in the British Army during the First World War as a Second Lieutenant.
His outstanding bravery led to his recommendation for the Victoria Cross, which remains one of the most celebrated acts of gallantry in his regiment's history. Today, his medals and legacy are preserved for future generations.
His decorations, including his Victoria Cross, are currently held in the collection of the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders Museum, located at Stirling Castle in Scotland, where his service and sacrifice continue to be honored.
