Lieutenant-Colonel John Frederick MacKay was a Scottish recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.
He served in the British Army, eventually rising to the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. His military career is defined by his actions of extreme gallantry which earned him the United Kingdom's premier military decoration.
His legacy remains preserved as one of the distinguished group of servicemen recognized for supreme bravery under fire during his service with the British military forces.
