Lieutenant, New Zealand Army
John Gildroy Grant, VC was a soldier in the New Zealand Military Forces during the First World War. He served with distinction and was a recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that could be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.
His military service during the First World War earned him several service medals, including the 1914–15 Star, the British War Medal, and the Victory Medal. He was also a recipient of coronation medals during his lifetime.
His medals, including his Victoria Cross, have been preserved and displayed alternately at the QEII Army Memorial Museum in Waiouru and the Puke Ariki in New Plymouth, serving as a lasting legacy of his bravery and service to his country.
