Technician Fifth Grade John Joseph Pinder Jr. was a United States Army soldier who posthumously received the Medal of Honor, the United States military's highest decoration, for his extraordinary heroism during World War II. On D-Day, June 6, 1944, during the landing at Colleville-sur-Mer, Normandy, France, Pinder was severely wounded but continuously refused medical aid to deliver vital radio equipment to the beachhead. He was hit multiple times while rescuing equipment and establishing communications, ultimately sacrificing his life to ensure his unit's success.
