Sergeant Major, Canadian Army
Company Sergeant Major John Robert Osborn, VC, was a Canadian soldier and a recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.
Born in Norfolk, England, Osborn first served his country as a member of the Royal Navy during the First World War before later immigrating to Canada.
His service in the Canadian Army during the Second World War culminated in his heroic actions during the Battle of Hong Kong, where he sacrificed his life for his fellow soldiers, earning the Victoria Cross posthumously.
