John Vale was a member of the Union Army during the American Civil War. Serving as a private in Company H, 2nd Minnesota Volunteer Infantry, he demonstrated exceptional bravery during his military service.
On February 15, 1863, during an engagement at Nolensville, Tennessee, Vale distinguished himself through his actions. Alongside a small detachment, he helped defend a wagon train against a larger enemy force, securing the vital supplies.
In recognition of his valor during the Civil War, Vale was awarded the Medal of Honor in 1897. He remains remembered as a dedicated soldier who served his country with distinction during one of its most challenging conflicts.
