Captain United States Army, U.S. Army

Jon Edward Swanson was a United States Army helicopter pilot who served with distinction during the Vietnam War. On his final mission in Cambodia, he courageously directed the destruction of five enemy bunkers and two anti-aircraft positions, providing critical support to ground forces before his aircraft was shot down.
His extraordinary heroism and self-sacrifice were recognized over thirty years after his death. In 2002, his family was presented with the Medal of Honor posthumously by President George W. Bush at a ceremony in Washington, D.C.
Captain Swanson's legacy remains an inspiring example of aviation leadership and bravery under fire. His actions during the Cambodian Campaign reflect the highest standards of military service and dedication to his fellow soldiers.
