Biography
General Leon William Johnson was a highly decorated United States Air Force general whose distinguished career spanned World War II and the Cold War. He is most famous for leading the daring, low-level attack on the Ploesti oil fields in Romania on August 1, 1943, a mission for which he was awarded the Medal of Honor for his conspicuous gallantry and leadership under intense enemy fire.
