Private First Class, U.S. Army
Leonard C. Brostrom was a United States Army infantry soldier who served during World War II. He was born in Preston, Idaho, and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having served a mission for his church before entering the military in 1943.
During the Philippines Campaign of 1944–45, Private First Class Brostrom was assigned to the 307th Infantry Regiment, 77th Infantry Division. On October 28, 1944, near Dagami on the island of Leyte, his company encountered stiff opposition from a heavily fortified Japanese position. Brostrom heroically rushed an enemy bunker single-handedly, killing several enemy soldiers and securing a breakthrough for his unit despite being mortally wounded.
For his conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty, Private First Class Brostrom was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor. He is buried in his hometown of Preston, Idaho, and his legacy remains an inspiration to his community and fellow service members.
