Brigadier general Brevet Major General, U.S. Army
Lewis Addison Grant was an American educator, attorney, and Union Army officer during the American Civil War, who later served his country as the United States Assistant Secretary of War. He rose through the ranks of the volunteer forces to become a brigadier general and was later breveted as a major general in recognition of his service. Grant was recognized as one of the leading military officers from the state of Vermont during the conflict.
Throughout the Civil War, Grant demonstrated exceptional leadership and bravery on the battlefield. His distinguished service with the Vermont Brigade earned him high regard among both his peers and superiors. He was actively engaged in numerous key campaigns and battles that shaped the outcome of the war in the Eastern Theater.
