Corporal, U.S. Army
Luther H. Story was a soldier in the United States Army who served during the Korean War. He posthumously received the Medal of Honor for his heroic actions on September 1, 1950, during the Battle of Yongsan. For his courage and selflessness, he was also posthumously promoted from Private First Class to Corporal.
His Medal of Honor was presented posthumously to his father by General of the Army Omar Bradley at the Pentagon on June 21, 1951. Story was also a recipient of the Purple Heart for wounds received in action. Today, his Medal of Honor is on display at the National Infantry Museum located in Columbus, Georgia.
Corporal Story's legacy is preserved in his native state of Georgia, where the Luther Story Bridge, spanning the Flint River, is named in his honor. He remains a symbol of the profound sacrifices made by American soldiers during the defense of South Korea.
