Captain of the Top, U.S. Navy

Michael Deneef (1851–1891) was a United States Navy sailor who served during the late 19th century. He achieved the rank of Captain of the Top, a significant non-commissioned position during the era of transition between sail and steam propulsion in the Navy.
He is best remembered for his distinguished service and actions that earned him the Medal of Honor, the United States military's highest decoration for valor. His dedicated service remains a part of early American naval heritage.
