Biography

Seized a rebel battle flag during a major breakthrough.

At Petersburg on April 3, 1865, Milton Blickensderfer captured a Confederate flag as Union forces broke through the defenses around the city.

Blickensderfer served in Company E, 126th Ohio Infantry. The official Medal of Honor record gives his action rank as corporal, and his award was issued on May 10, 1865. The National Medal of Honor Museum also confirms the regiment, the Petersburg action, and the flag capture.
