Lieutenant Commander, U.S. Navy

Niels Drustrup was an officer in the United States Navy who served with distinction during the early 20th century. Born in Denmark, he immigrated to the United States and enlisted in the naval service, eventually rising to the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He is best known for his actions during the United States occupation of Veracruz in 1914.
On April 21, 1914, during the landing of U.S. naval forces at Veracruz, Mexico, Drustrup was serving as a Chief Turret Captain attached to the USS Utah. During the engagement, he was placed in charge of an advanced barricade under heavy enemy fire.
