Colonel Ola Lee Mize was a highly decorated United States Army officer who received the Medal of Honor for his conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity during the Korean War. Serving with the 3rd Infantry Division, Mize distinguished himself during a fierce defensive action at Outpost Harry, where he repeatedly exposed himself to intense enemy fire to secure the outpost and protect his fellow soldiers.
Following his heroic actions in Korea, Mize continued his dedicated service in the Army, eventually joining the Special Forces. He served multiple tours during the Vietnam War, commanding various Special Forces units, including the 3rd Special Forces Group, and earning numerous decorations for valor and meritorious service.
Over his illustrious thirty-year military career, Mize achieved mastery in various specialized military skills, earning the Combat Infantryman Badge with a star, the Master Parachutist Badge, the Ranger Tab, and the Special Forces Tab. He retired from active duty in 1981 at the rank of Colonel, leaving behind a legacy of extraordinary bravery, leadership, and devotion to duty.
